How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Ring for Your Diamond
Finding the perfect ring is a journey of love and precision. We guide you through the 4 Cs and everything in between.
The Journey Begins With Love
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most meaningful purchases you'll ever make. Beyond the sparkle and the setting, it's a symbol that will be worn every day for a lifetime — so getting it right matters.
Understanding the 4 Cs
Cut is the most important of the four factors. A well-cut diamond reflects light brilliantly, creating the signature sparkle. Look for Excellent or Very Good cut grades.
Colour is graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). For most settings, G–H is the sweet spot — nearly colourless to the naked eye but significantly more affordable than D–F.
Clarity refers to inclusions and blemishes. VS1–VS2 diamonds are eye-clean and offer excellent value. You rarely need to pay for Flawless.
Carat is weight, not size — though the two are related. A well-cut 1ct diamond will look larger than a poorly cut 1.2ct stone.
Choosing the Right Setting
The setting dramatically changes the ring's personality:
- Solitaire — Timeless, lets the stone speak for itself
- Pavé — Smaller diamonds line the band, adding brilliance
- Halo — Surrounding stones make the centre appear larger
- Bezel — The stone is enclosed in metal, ideal for active lifestyles
Metal Choices
Yellow gold feels warm and vintage. White gold gives a modern, platinum-like look at a lower price point. Rose gold has become a favourite for its romantic warmth. Platinum is the most durable and hypoallergenic option.
Budget Guidance
A common guideline is two months' salary, but the best ring is the one that feels right for your relationship and your finances. At Baura, we believe exceptional craftsmanship doesn't have to come at an exceptional price.
Final Checklist
Before purchasing, ensure you have her ring size (or a close estimate), understand the return policy, and ask for a certificate from GIA or IGI for any diamond above 0.50ct.
